Imo Speaker warns Nigerians against hate speech
Speaker Acho Ihim |
Nigerians of various ethno –
political and religious groups in and outside the country have been advised to
eschew hate speeches in all its colorations for the peace, unity and positive
development of Nigeria.
The
President, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), Africa Region, who
also is the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable (Dr.) Acho
Ihim gave the advise in Owerri, the Imo state capital, in a statement to mark
the end of this year’s Eid – El Kabir holidays, signed by his Chief Press
Secretary, Mr. Marcel Ekwezuo.
Dr.
Acho Ihim who attributed various skirmishes bedeviling the country to hate
speeches which often result to hate actions, stated that Nigeria will be better
in all fronts if the citizenry abide by the teachings and tenets of their
various religious founders which he said is peaceful and full of admonitions to
love one another.
The
CPA, Africa Region President who lamented the adverse effects of what he called
unwarranted utterances against Nigerians by some Nigerians, explains that
history is replete with havocs occasioned by hate speech arguing that this will
not do any good to anybody including hate speech peddlers.
Rt. Hon
Acho Ihim condemned in strong terms all forms of malicious statements against
fellow citizens stressing that hate speeches are destructive, deceitful,
deluding and devouring.
According
to him, hate speech mongers thrive on falsehood against their victims and in
most cases destroy them alongside their positive contributions to the country’s
economy.
In
place of hate speeches against Nigerians, Dr. Acho Ihim made case for the use
of fair and kind words on one another to calm frayed nerves for the good of
Nigeria and Nigerians.
