Imo ready for LG poll July 16, says ISIEC boss

The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission ISIEC has declared their readiness to conduct Local Government Election in the state by July 16 this year.



The Chairman of ISIEC, Hon. Ibebuchi Ethelbert disclosed this on Tuesday  in a meeting with the Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, Represented by his Adviser on Inter-party Affairs, Hon. Dr. Steve Orji, ISIEC Commissioners, and members of Inter-party Advisory Council of Nigeria IPAC Imo State Chapter in ISIEC office Owerri.

Hon.  Ibebuchi Ethelbert said the news of Local Government Election in Imo State is rumour until ISIEC said otherwise, adding that now ISIEC has made it open, it is no longer a rumour and urged the political parties to begin sensitisation of their followers in their various wards and Local Governments Areas.

Members of the Imo State Chapter of Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria IPAC in their different speeches for their various political parties expressed fear of ISIEC to conduct free, fair and credible Local Government Election, but pledged to work with ISIEC if they can have the confident in the commission to conduct credible election.

Reacting to their comments, ISIEC Chairman, Hon. Ethelbert assured political parties that the Commission after extensive consultation is ready to deliver, and urged them to have that confidence in the commission for a free and fair local government election.

He advised them to play their own part by working hard as power is not given, and also cooperate with the commission to have a smooth conduct of the Election.

In his remarks, the Adviser to the Governor on Inter-Party Affairs, Hon. (Dr.) Steve Orji commended IPAC in Imo State for their cooperation and show of maturity, and assured them that the APC led  Government of Governor Rochas Okorocha is ever ready to work with them in the State.
